Don’t be fooled by promises of easier student loan payments!

You may soon receive information from the Department of Education regarding their Special Direct Consolidation Loan Program that starts in January of 2012. Even though they are calling the program a “Consolidation” Loan Program it is merely combining loan locations, and not really consolidating the loans and therefore you do not receive any benefits of a consolidation loan. We urge you to use caution and consider your options before making a decision to transfer your loans. Perkins Loans are not eligible for this program, nor are loans in an in-school status. Consolidating your student loans is not always the right answer. If you consolidate your loans you could lose valuable benefits KHESLC provides to you. Before you consider moving your student loan debt, we recommend you consider what you could be giving up. If you leave your loans with KHESLC, you will maintain:

• Qualifying borrower benefits
• Qualifying on-time benefits
• Local, friendly and knowledgeable staff to service your loans
• Ease of keeping your loans with a lender you know and trust
